Capturing the eerie and somber atmosphere of the abandoned Eastern State Penitentiary was the overriding reason to shoot at the prison. I shot in black and white to accentuate the texture of the decaying walls, the rusted barber chair, the rusted cot and the overall sense of neglect and desolation. The stark lighting and shadows contribute to the feeling of isolation and despair that I aimed to convey. The images are a powerful reminder of the harsh conditions that inmates endured along with the penitentiary's dark history.
